For Schools & Districts

Seating Chart Maker is used by teachers around the world to plan classroom seating. This page is for school and district administrators, IT staff, and privacy officers who need to understand how we handle student data and what we can provide to support your compliance review.

The Service is operated by Tremble Oy (Finnish business id: 3235618-3), a company based in Finland. Most of our users are individual teachers who subscribe on their own, but we want the Service to be safe and transparent for institutions as well.

How we handle student data

  • You stay in control. When a teacher enters student information (such as names and optional photos) to build a seating chart, the school remains the owner and controller of that data. We act only as a data processor (a "school official" with a legitimate educational interest under FERPA), using the data solely to provide the Service.
  • No selling, no advertising, no profiling. We never sell student data, never share it for marketing, and never use it to build advertising profiles. We do not show third-party ads.
  • Data minimization. We only collect what the Service needs: a teacher's email address for their account, and the roster and seating content the teacher chooses to enter.
  • Deletion on request. Teachers can delete their account and all associated data at any time from within the app. Schools may also request deletion of their data by contacting us.
  • Not directed to children. The Service is designed for teachers and schools, not for direct use by students. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children under 13 (COPPA).

Data residency and security

Account data and the content teachers create (rosters, rooms, and seating charts, including any uploaded photos) are stored in Google Cloud data centers in the United States, using Google Firebase for hosting, authentication, database, and file storage.

  • Encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) for all data
  • Encryption of data at rest
  • Access controls: each account can only access its own data
  • Payments are handled entirely by our payment provider (see below); we never receive or store full card details

Sub-processors

We rely on a small number of established service providers to operate the Service:

  • Google Firebase: hosting, authentication, database, and file storage (United States)
  • Paddle.com Market Limited: Merchant of Record and payment processing
  • Formspree: contact form processing
  • Sentry: error tracking (configured not to collect personal information or use cookies)
  • PostHog: anonymous product analytics (configured not to collect personal information or use cookies)

For full details on the data we collect and why, see our Privacy Policy.

Data privacy agreements

Some districts require a signed data privacy agreement before staff can use a third-party service. For institutional customers, we can review and, where appropriate, sign a standard student data privacy agreement such as the Student Data Privacy Consortium (SDPC) National Data Privacy Agreement (NDPA).

Because we are a small company, a signed agreement is arranged as part of a school or district plan rather than an individual teacher subscription. If your district needs an agreement in place, please contact us and let us know which agreement you use; we will follow up to discuss the details.

If our site is blocked on your network

Sometimes a district's web filter blocks seatingchartmaker.app automatically. This usually happens because the domain has not yet been categorized, not because of anything specific to our Service. If teachers on your network cannot reach the app, your IT team can allow it by categorizing or allow-listing the domain seatingchartmaker.app (and its subdomains) as an education tool in your web-filtering product.

If you tell us which filtering product you use and share the block message your teachers see, we can also submit our domain for review with that provider. Get in touch and we will help.
